New team member- help me decide!
Thu Jul 11, 2024 2:16 pm
Later this year I'm going to be adding a second member to my team, and I'm doing plenty of research to make sure I make the right choice. My current partner is a Deino, and I'm a dragon type specialist (it runs in the family ). I'm thinking about either a Dratini or a Gible, and I was curious if anyone here has experience with either of them.

Dragon types can be pretty territorial - what's your Deino's personality like? If it's not really gentle I would be careful introducing any new Pokemon to it, they tend to be biters!

Just because people say dragon types are aggressive doesn't make it true. Yes she plays rough sometimes, but mouthing is NOT the same as biting. I'm really not worried about "aggression". Honestly, if there are any social problems it will be because of my brother's Axew- it's a total scaredy-skitty, and gets all the other Pokémon in the house worked up.

I mean, I have experience with Dragon types, and they do tend to need to have their trainers work with them to keep them from being aggressive. I don't think that's a myth. But even if she's not trying to be rough, I would still want to keep an eye on her interactions with any new Pokemon and separate them if she's bitey - or mouthy. Axew don't tend to be super timid, are you sure they just don't have an adversarial relationship for some reason?

Listen egghead, I didn't make a thread asking for help with my Deino, I asked if anyone had experience with Dratini or Gible. Since you've clearly never actually met any dragon types, I don't know why you replied.

Everyone knows Drampa is basically just a normal type that knows a couple of dragon moves.

Okay, that's a really stupid opinion, but even if that *were* true, I have also taken care of other Dragon type Pokemon before... Like Deinos and Gibles... And I think those two are both usually pretty aggressive and would get along poorly if you don't put a lot of work into it! I just feel like you aren't really thinking through what taking care of two pretty high need Pokemon would look like.

Oh Arceus, you can NOT bring a gible into this situation! They are massively territorial, and so is the deino family of Pokémon. I would recommend a goomy, if it must be another dragon type- based on advice from a colleague, when I showed him this thread.
If it MUST be one of the two, PLEASE get a dratini, and make sure it’s particularly well-tempered, because a fight between these two Pokémon still has the potential to injure, if not outright kill, you and everyone around you.
